She was not one to shy away from anything and always spoke her mind-no doubts about her expectations and where you stood. And, of course, to have that look, she had to shop-a lot-enjoying every minute of it! Being very social and gregarious, she loved to have a good time and a good party with friends. Known as being a glitzy sharp-dresser with everything matching, for her large earrings and massive collection of shoes, Sydney’s dress was an outward display of her flamboyant, larger-than-life personality. Sydney found comfort and relaxation in working in her yard and tending her flowers with her beloved dachshund Breeze, her current constant companion. She also chaired several other committees. Being community minded, she served on the Wrens City Council from 1978 to 2007 and was the first female elected to public office in Wrens. Sydney was a member of Wrens United Methodist Church, Friends of McCollum Library, American Nurses Association, Georgia Nurses Association, Barrett School of Nursing Alumni, Center Directors Association of Georgia, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce and the John Franklin Wren Chapter of NSDAR. where she served as Director of Nursing, after which she worked, and retired from, Jefferson County Service Center. She was immediately employed by McDuffie County Hospital, then Thomson Manor Inc. After graduating in 1959 from Wrens High School, she attended Augusta College and graduated in 1962 from Barrett School of Nursing. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00PM Tuesday afternoon, Jat James Funeral Home prior to the service.Ī native of Jefferson County, Sydney was born to the late Ruth Johnson Lamb and the late Harry Edward Lamb and was a life-long resident of Wrens. Services to celebrate her life will be held in the James Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00PM Tuesday afternoon, June 27, 2023, with the Reverends Chad Watkins and Russell Davis officiating. Sydney Lamb McGahee, 82, loving wife of the late Maurice McGahee, entered into her eternal rest late Friday night, Jat Doctors Hospital in Augusta.
